Again, SAVABEEL is this season’s Leading Sire by Winners on the New Zealand Sires Premiership and sits a close second to Proisir by Earnings.
The 24-year-old Savabeel continues to perform at the highest level.

Savabeel - Sire
Whilst he is also a remarkable Broodmare Sire, leading the Premiership by Winners and is second to O’Reilly by Earnings.
So far this season he has recorded twelve individual stakes winners and nine stakes placegetters.
Among these he has eight stakes winners in New Zealand - the most of any NZ sire, with Belle Cheval (NZ) becoming his latest Group 1 winner in the Vinery Stud Stakes.
Savabeel's individual Group 1 winners tally now stands at 36, a figure that should continue to rise given he has covered books of 108, 90 and 88 mares across the past three seasons.
As he chases his eleventh premiership, the ten-time New Zealand Champion Sire and inductee into the New Zealand Racing Hall of Fame in 2025, Savabeel’s contribution to the industry is immense.
In 2026, he will stand as a "Private Stallion" with access limited to Waikato Stud and existing shareholders.
Savabeel commenced stud duties in New Zealand in 2005.
His resume of success is incredible.

Waikato Stud’s Chittick family have been breeding, rearing and developing elite racehorses at its Matamata property since the 1990s with a cavalcade of outstanding stallions going back to champion sire Centaine (Century).
Multiple champion NZ sires O’Reilly (Last Tycoon) and Pins (Snippets) followed, and Waikato Stud’s current roster loses nothing on that score with ten-time champion sire Savabeel (Zabeel) continuing the world-renowned Sir Tristram (Sir Ivor) – Zabeel sireline in 2026.
General manager Mike Rennie released this year’s roster and service fees on Wednesday.
“We are incredibly proud of the line-up and one we are proud to show clients,” Rennie said.
“It also reflects the long-term thinking and tradition that has played such a big part in our success. We know how hard it is to make a stallion and, even more so these days, to acquire one.”
Savabeel was inducted into the New Zealand Racing Hall of Fame in 2025. He has made an extraordinary contribution to the Australasian industry and this year, his book will be private, with Waikato Stud and his loyal shareholders the only breeders with access to the breed-shaping influence.
“What more can you say about a stallion who has achieved so much?” Rennie continued.
“Sav still enjoys his work, and he looks great. While he’s set at private, on the track he’s certainly not done yet.
“Belle Cheval was incredibly impressive in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes and his 158th stakes winner arrived on Saturday when Essentric Nature was successful in the Old Comrade Stakes in Perth.
“He’s closing in on Zabeel’s record of 166 stakes winners and we’re confident he will get there. And that will be another major milestone to tick off for Sav.”
Savabeel is closing in on the stakes winner record of his own sire Zabeel as Waikato Stud looks to the future.
Waikato Stud’s Savabeel has his influence firmly entrenched at the elite level.
At the 2026 NZ Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sales Team Dynamic went across the ditch to buy the "best Savabeel colt" we could identify that was bred on a proven and highly successful cross.
We were delighted to have purchased Lot 135 — a quality bay colt by champion sire Savabeel, out of the dual stakes-placed Pins mare Smashing.

Lot 135 Savabeel x Smashing Bay Colt at Karaka after purchase

This is a proven, elite mating.

The Savabeel over Pins cross is the Second (2nd) most successful sire-broodmare sireline combinations in Australasia, producing 154 starters for 118 winners (76.6% w:r), including 19 stakes winners (16.1% sw:w).
It is a cross we know intimately and one where we have already enjoyed significant success through our stakes-winning & multiple stakes placed mare Savapinski.

SAVAPINSKI returns to the winners circle after winning the Gr2 Matriarch S.
Lot 135 was offered by the renowned Trelawney Stud based in Cambridge, New Zealand — widely regarded as one of the leading thoroughbred nurseries in the Southern Hemisphere — this colt comes with both pedigree depth and physical quality.

He is also a full brother to Samarelle, a two-year-old winner who finished runner-up in the Group 3 Reginald Allen Stakes at Randwick, underlining the family’s ability to perform at elite level in Australia.

Savabeel needs no introduction. A Cox Plate Hero and Spring Champion winner himself, he has gone on to become Champion Sire in New Zealand on 10 occasions, compiling a remarkable record that includes over 1,054 winners, 158 stakes winners, 97 stakes placed and 36 Group 1 winners. Earnings of over $204 million AUD

SAVABEEL - Champion Sire
Now entering the twilight of his stallion career, Savabeel’s yearlings are becoming increasingly rare — with only 60 live foals in the most recent yearling crop — ensuring his quality progeny are rapidly becoming collector’s items.
Dynamic Syndications travelled to New Zealand with a clear and focused objective:
“To secure the best Savabeel colt bred on the best available cross.”
We are extremely confident that objective has been achieved.
As the saying goes “Buy the one you want – not the one your left with.”
The hammer fell at $160,000 NZD + GST, representing remarkable buying for a colt of this calibre, pedigree and scarcity.
On the exchange rate that day, that figure equates to approximately $137,600 AUD.
With GST needing to be added along with transport to Australia estimated at $6,500, the overall acquisition still represents outstanding value in today’s competitive bloodstock marketplace.
From a veterinary perspective, the colt passed a rigorous pre-purchase examination, returning a Clean scope and low-risk x-rays, providing us confidence in his long-term racing prospects.
The Dam Smashing (by Pins) was a genuine race mare, winning six races after scoring as a two-year-old, proving effective from 1000 metres to 1400 metres. She was stakes placed twice in the Lightning Handicap in New Zealand.
The pedigree deepens further through the Second Dam Ruud Van Slaats (by Van Nistelrooy) — a multiple Group 2 winner and Group 1 placegetter, who has produced five winners, including three stakes placegetters.
The Third Dam Quintilla (by Danehill) is a full sister to Dawn Almighty, the dam of Ruud Awakening — New Zealand’s Champion Two-Year-Old and winner of both their Group 1 Diamond Stakes and the Karaka Millions. Ruud Awakening has since gone on to produce high-quality juveniles, including Rise Of The Masses, winner of the Group 3 Pago Pago Stakes.
On physical inspection, this colt rated extremely highly, combining scope, balance and athleticism.
On the data, the mating ranked as the equal second-highest rated genetic cross in the entire catalogue, earning A+++ Enick, A+++ Geonick and a Q6 rating — metrics that historically has correlated with elite racetrack success.
Adding further confidence to the purchase, the colt will be trained by champion Australian trainer Ciaron Maher, whose record at the elite level speaks for itself.
Under his guidance, our son of Savabeel will be given every opportunity to develop and fulfil his considerable racetrack potential.
Team Dynamic has always enjoyed outstanding success racing the progeny of Savabeel.
With the sire’s influence now finite and his offspring increasingly sought-after, securing another high-quality colt with outstanding conformation, elite genetics and genuine upside was vital.
This colt offers our owners a rare opportunity — to race a top-class son of a true super sire, bred on one of the most successful crosses of the modern era.
Plus the AUD/NZD exchange rate has made the colt a saleyard gift.
Our SAVABEEL x SMASHING bay colt became out 10th Yearling Purchase this year, joining the 9 outstanding prospects we purchased the Magic Millions.
Having achieved our mission in NZ on Day 1 of the sale, we are extremely content taking home just Lot 135.

Dynamic Syndications purchased a ripper of a colt at the NZ Bloodstock Karaka Premier by SAVABEEL x SMASHING placed in the care of Ciaron Maher.
